Appenzeller Sennenhunds are a beautiful medium size dog breed from the Swiss Alps. They are part of a group of four Sennehund breeds and are the rarest of the four to find. The other four kinds of Sennenhunds are the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, the Berner Sennenhund and the Entlebucher Sennenhund.

The Appenzeller Sennenhund is brightly colored with black and white, and rust on their coat-rust spots are always found above their eyes with a white blaze - the rust is always surrounded by black on the true purebreds. They are typically a very compact and muscular dog, well suited to roaming rough terrain and doing physical labor. The name itself is translated into English as Appenzell Cattle Dog.
